Brittany Deonarine - Therapist in Wellington, FL

Introduction

I believe therapy should be a space where you can feel safe, understood, and supported while being able to show up as your authentic self. Life can bring experiences that feel overwhelming or difficult to navigate alone, and I feel honored to walk alongside clients as they work through those challenges and discover their own strengths. I believe having a supportive, trusting therapeutic relationship can make a meaningful difference in that process. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and families, including clients experiencing trauma, anxiety, behavioral and emotional challenges, family stress, and other difficult life experiences.

I work with clients across the lifespan, with a particular focus on children and adolescents. I believe in meeting children where they are developmentally and incorporating play therapy techniques, creative interventions, and expressive approaches to help them communicate and process emotions. I also believe caregivers are an important part of the therapeutic process and strive to build collaborative relationships with families.

My approach is compassionate, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and centered around each client's individual needs. I strive to create a non-judgmental space where clients can explore their emotions, better understand themselves, recognize their strengths, and work toward meaningful change!

What can I expect in my first few sessions with you?

In our first few sessions, my priority is getting to know you and creating a relationship where you feel safe, comfortable, and respected. I don't expect you to come into therapy with everything figured out, and I won't expect you to share anything before you are ready. We'll spend time talking about what brought you to therapy, what has been going on in your life, and what you would like support with. I'll ask questions to better understand your experiences, strengths, relationships, and goals, while also giving you space to tell your story in your own way. When working with children, I recognize that talking directly about difficult experiences isn't always the easiest or most developmentally appropriate way to communicate. Depending on the child's age and needs, I may incorporate play, creative activities, or other expressive techniques into our sessions. Most importantly, therapy is a collaborative process. We will work together to understand what you need and develop an approach that feels right for you and your goals.

What makes you different from other therapists, psychologists, ARNPs?

What I believe makes my approach unique is the way I focus on understanding the person behind the behavior or symptoms. Especially when working with children, I don't want to look at a behavior simply as something that needs to be corrected. I want to understand what the child may be communicating through that behavior and what they may be experiencing underneath it. My work is grounded in a trauma-informed, child-centered, and strengths-based perspective. I incorporate play therapy techniques and creative approaches because children often communicate through play and behavior in ways that they may not yet have the words to express. I also place a strong emphasis on involving caregivers and understanding the child's environment, because meaningful change often involves more than what happens inside the therapy room. I bring compassion, curiosity, and a willingness to meet each client where they are. I want clients to feel that their experiences, identities, strengths, and voices genuinely matter in the work we do together.

What inspired you to become a therapist, psychologist or medication management provider?

I was inspired to become a therapist because I’ve witnessed how impactful it can be to have a supportive, non-judgmental environment where you can feel safe. I feel passionate about being that space for others and creating an environment where clients feel safe enough to process their experiences, understand themselves in new ways, and make the changes they want in their lives.
