Michelle Bello, LMHC - Therapist in Wellington, FL

Introduction

My name is Michelle (Shelly) Bello. I like to support those I work with professionally, as holistically as possible. I believe we are spiritual beings (regardless of particular religion/beliefs) just as equally as physical, emotional, or intellectual beings.

I work with all ages, however my specialties are with young children. Children have always been at the heart of my professionalism, and most of my training has been to work with them.

As for adults, I have worked with parents for most of my professional life; but I also enjoy working with anyone going through any sort of challenge and/or life transition. I like to “meet them where they are”, support them in getting through those times, and assist them in becoming more self-aware and empowered and get more in touch with some of their healthiest chosen life coping skills in general.

What can I expect in my first few sessions with?

During our first session, the Intake, you can expect to share some important things about you, including the reasons why you are seeking support at this time; and I will ask questions to help clarify and make sure to obtain vital information. This is also a time where I will share my approach in therapy sessions, and we can both determine whether we feel it will be a good fit for us both. We will also discuss other supplemental ways/resources that can enhance any treatment planning. In the following few sessions, we will begin to get to know each other more and begin to dive into discovering you strengths, supports, and of course focus on any areas you are hoping to grow healthier in.

What makes you different from other therapists?

Anyone seeking therapeutic mental health support deserves the basics of an effective therapist- which includes core qualities such as empathy, active listening, a non-judgmental attitude, patience, and authenticity. Professional counseling skills, an ethical foundation, and a therapeutic relationship are other important parts to an effective therapist. Some things about me as a therapist that show my authenticity: I tend to be down-to-earth, light-hearted, approach issues and solutions from a holistic perspective as much as possible, and I can be very direct as well as bring light humor to the therapeutic relationship. I like to focus on strengths, positivity, and progress. I believe honesty is the best policy between therapist and client. I believe in promoting self-accountability as well as personal growth. For my very young clients, I am a firm believer in that parents are not only the experts on their child, but also first teachers, and their involvement is crucial to progress.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

A few things inspired me to become a therapist. I love helping people see/recognize their strengths and gifts, I have always been a nurturer/helper by nature, and have always loved and connected well with children, in particular- as well as young adults. I also experienced a crucial therapeutic relationship when I was a young adult, and it made a huge difference at that point in my life, when I felt like no one around me (despite having loving support of family/friends) really understood or could help me work through a large challenge. I also consider myself to be a holistically-based (and Christian-based spiritually) therapist, as I have experienced and witnessed, throughout my entire Life, that having a Higher Power to help support, guide, and protect me/others through hard times, is a major defining aspect of my identity as a person- professionally and personally.
