Introduction

My name is Tamilla Askerova, and I am originally from Russia. I have been living in the United States, specifically South Florida, for the past 17 years. I am a bilingual, speaking English and Russian, Registered Marriage and Family Therapy Intern. I work with adults, teenagers, couples, and families navigating life transitions, anxiety, relational stress, and self-esteem challenges. What can I expect in my first few sessions with you?

In our first few sessions, you can expect a safe and supportive space where we explore what brought you to therapy and take time to understand you as a person and your overall story. We will work together to identify your goals and the areas of your life you would like to improve. I work from a strengths-based, future-focused perspective, emphasizing solutions, personal strengths, and what has worked for you in the past. Together, we will identify skills and strategies you can build on to support growth and long-term success. You will also begin learning practical tools to help you better manage the stressors that led you to seek therapy, empowering you to feel more confident, supported, and in control as we move forward.

What makes you different from other therapists?

What sets me apart as a therapist is the cultural perspective I bring from growing up in two different cultures. This experience allows me to approach therapy with openness and a genuine interest in understanding the whole person, not just the concerns that bring them to treatment. I am bilingual in Russian and English, which helps me connect with clients from diverse backgrounds and better understand how culture and language influence emotional experiences. My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, combining practical tools with strengths-based, future-focused work. Therapy is tailored to each individual and adapts as clients grow and their needs evolve.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

I was inspired to become a therapist because I have always enjoyed helping people navigate relational challenges and better understand themselves. I am deeply interested in how people think, what motivates them, and how they work toward creating a more fulfilling life. I have always been curious about people’s lived experiences and wanted to be part of that journey by offering guidance and support as they move toward the life they envision for themselves. I am especially inspired by people’s resilience and their ability to grow, even during difficult times. Becoming a therapist allowed me to support individuals in recognizing the strengths they already possess and to help them use those strengths to achieve their goals and create meaningful, lasting change.
