Alison Whitney - Therapist in Sunrise, FL

Introduction

My name is Alison Whitney. I am a heart-centered and compassionate mental health clinician. I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Dance/Movement Therapy from Columbia College Chicago. It was in this program that I began to awaken to the importance of working not only with the mind but also the body in healing. I work from a mind, body, and soul-based lens to help bring these to a place of balance and alignment. I incorporate simple & practical tools along with deeper somatic and trauma-informed processing modalities. I also believe strongly in the healing power of creativity and will incorporate writing, movement, or art into sessions if that interests you. I hold a space of gentleness, strength, safety, and unconditional love where all parts of you are met with the utmost care, kindness, and compassion. It is my honor to accompany, guide, and walk alongside you in your journey back to your most Authentic expression of Self. I work with teens and adults dealing with challenges such as: anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief, and life transitions.

What can I expect in my first few sessions with?

During our first few sessions I create an environment where you will feel safe and at ease to open up. I make sure to flow at whatever pace feels comfortable to you. The beginning of therapy is an important phase to build rapport and make sure that I am the right fit for you. We will work together to create treatment plan goals to work towards so that we have a framework to know where to take the therapy moving forward but can always adapt as time goes on.

What makes you different from other therapists?

I have a unique background and lens that I bring as a therapist. My Master’s degree is in Counseling and Dance/Movement Therapy from Columbia College Chicago. It was in this program that I learned not only of the importance of working with the mind but also the body as well. I say that I work from a mind, body, and soul based-lens. Helping to bring these into balance. I am a very interactive therapist, making sure to give you the tools and skills you need; along with using different therapeutic modalities within sessions. I believe strongly in the healing power of creativity and often will use art, writing, movement if that is something you would like to engage with.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

I have always been a person that others feel safe to open up to and provide guidance and wisdom. It has always come very easily, naturally, and organically to me. Being a therapist is truly my passion. I love walking alongside others as they increase awareness, heal, change, become more empowered, and overcome. Not only do I bring my education and knowledge but I also bring my own life experiences that have influenced me to give back and be there for others.
