Vanessa Robinson - Therapist in Hollywood, FL

Introduction

I have experience working with adults (18+) who directly experienced trauma (i.e., complex trauma, developmental trauma, relational trauma, domestic violence), grief and loss, chronic stress, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and ADD/ADHD. I also enjoy working with those who feel impacted as they support friends or family members who are struggling with those challenges. Depending on the client's preferences and presenting challenges, I draw from different modalities to help each client identify their personal goals, provide them with psycho-education, and encourage skill practice to empower them to accept the challenge to do the personal work necessary to facilitate the shifts they are seeking within their mental and emotional health. And this is all conducted once we establish a safe space together.

Being a part of the spiritual community in South Florida, I became passionate about bridging the gap between what most view as traditional therapy and holistic modalities by setting a safe space for my clients to explore different aspects of themselves and listen deeper to their own voice and life story. I encourage, but do not require, clients to explore and educate me on how they identify/do not identify spiritually and culturally in order to align therapeutic progress with practical adjustments they feel is authentic to them.

Heavy feelings, confusion, uncertainty, tears, stagnancy, helplessness, and all that you see as ugly is welcomed. Some days, humor and joy may sit with us in session. Come as you are.

What can I expect in my first few sessions with?

Within the first few sessions, you can expect me to help you figure out how to engage in therapy in a way that makes sense to you. I will try to get to know you as a person, describe my non-judgmental approach, and help you feel safe in a therapeutic environment by helping you understand your rights to treatment and maintaining ongoing consent.

What makes you different from other therapists?

I think what makes me different from other therapists is that I try to alleviate the pressure/tension that stems from the perception that I am the only expert in the therapy room. I make the effort to normalize anxiety/concerns surrounding therapy and make the effort to depathologize what is normal, human ways of being within the context of trauma, chronic stress, and/or mental health challenges.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

I was inspired to become a therapist when I recognized how one's ability to create a purposeful, meaningful life can be impacted by trauma, chronic stress, and/or other mental health challenges. I hope to help people learn how to find their middle path so that they can increase their chances in creating a lifestyle that aligns to their values, and create a sense of purpose by maintaining their progress as they strive to accomplish their dreams and goals.
