Horacia Summers

Hi, I’m Horacia Summers. I am a counseling student intern under the supervision of Stacy Lloyd. I am currently pursuing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and have obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Nova Southeastern University.  I have background experience as an ESE Teacher and Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) for preschool students with autism. I have worked with children and families to reach their goals through relationship building, open communication and creative solutions. As a counseling intern, I am committed to providing a safe and non-judgmental space to support you through your ongoing journey of healing and self-discovery. I aim to utilize a narrative-based approach using evidence-based research and techniques through a person-centered outlook. Your story is a unique and powerful one that can offer resilience and strength. Let’s work together to continue to define your story and see what unfolds.

What can I expect in my first few sessions with?

You can expect a professional dedicated to learning more about your history, life and goals in a confidential, warm, judgement-free setting. You will learn about your rights as a client and my responsibility as your counselor. We will also work together to identify areas you want to work on and a treatment plan will be developed with goals to address your concerns. Be prepared to experience a wide range of emotions as we progress through goals, learn new information and discovery more about yourself.

What makes you different from other therapists?

I have experience working with students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) in the school setting.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

I am passionate about the field of mental health because it focuses on helping others to improve their quality of life. Through mental health practices, we are able to gain resilience against adversity and obstacles, improves our ability to function and it is essential for personal growth. Our thoughts and feelings make us who we are and our ability to use our mind to achieve our goals and dreams should be celebrated. This is why we should make sure to take care of it and seek professional help when we have difficulties navigating the fog alone.
