Keith Wasserman, PMHNP

I am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I have been practicing nursing in an acute care setting for 17 years in the area of psychiatry.  I specialize in treatment of Depression, Anxiety, Mood disorders and Thought disorders.  I have worked with individuals with comorbidities, acute and chronic disorders of various types.

My approach is person-centered, humanistic, psychodynamic and solution focused.  Treatment is tailored to goals that will benefit the clients.  I am culturally sensitive regarding race, social-economic backgrounds, gender, sexuality, religion, etc.

I chose to become a mental health professional because I care about people, I find it rewarding,  and I want to help individuals reach their optimum mental health and self-efficacy.  Mental health has been my passion and I feel rewarded when someone reaches their goals and is able to live a better life.

What can I expect in my first few sessions with?

In our first few sessions, my main goal is to get to know you and understand what brought you here. We’ll talk about your history, your current concerns, and how those symptoms are affecting your daily life. I’ll ask about your medical history, medications, and any previous treatments you’ve tried, so I can get a full picture.

During this time, I’ll also explain how I work, answer any questions you have, and together we’ll start identifying your goals for treatment. We’ll talk about different options — medications, therapy, or lifestyle approaches — and decide what feels right for you.

What makes you different from other PMHNP?

What makes me different is that I don’t just focus on prescribing medication or giving you a one-size-fits-all plan. I really take the time to listen to your story and understand what matters most to you. I want you to be an active part of the treatment plan, so we’ll make decisions together — whether that involves medication, therapy, lifestyle changes, or a combination. My role is to support you, not just treat symptoms, so that the plan feels doable and truly yours.

What inspired you to become a PMHNP?

I was inspired to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner because I’ve always believed that people heal best when they feel truly heard and supported. Mental health care isn’t just about giving a diagnosis or a prescription — it’s about listening, understanding, and working together to find a plan that feels right for you. What motivates me is helping people feel less alone in what they’re going through and giving them tools to feel better and live the life they want.
