What can I expect in my first few sessions with?

In your first few sessions with me, I try to get a deeper understanding of who you are, including specific events you experienced and significant interactions with others in your life. I approach counseling from an Adlerian perspective, looking at how these past events and relationships shaped your view of yourself, view of others, and your view of the world. This also allows us to identify any specific memories you may want to target with EMDR and I incorporate numerous EMDR resources and coping strategies so that you have specific tools to use outside of session to manage stressful live events.

What makes you different from other therapists?

What makes me different from others therapists is my love of metaphors and I love to incorporate them into my sessions. Although superheroes don't appeal to everyone, I try to encourage everyone to find that part of themselves they want to strengthen, whether it be their courage, knowing they make a difference and matter, can connect to others, and are capable to meet their needs. I also hope it helps increase our acceptance of those parts of ourselves that at times we find unlovable.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

As a child, I experienced multiple family losses in quick succession. During that time, I felt extremely anxious and I met with a child psychologist who helped me find ways to ease that anxiety. I was pretty intrigued that I could one day do something like that, working with others and helping them (and it takes a lot less math than a veterinarian). Over time, I've really come to enjoy working with children, their parents, and adults, to make deeper and more meaningful connections with themselves, and others in their life.
