Erin Stephens - Therapist in Port Orange, FL

My approach to therapy is holistic, treating the body, mind, and soul. I believe that empathy, understanding, and assertiveness are essential to a positive and transformative therapeutic relationship. I strive to create a non-judgmental, safe space where clients feel empowered to grow and explore meaningful change. Each client’s point of view, orientation, self-report, and internal awareness are deeply respected and valued. My focus is to guide and encourage clients as they navigate their healing journey, helping them recognize and be inspired by their own progress as they work toward the life they desire.

I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from Trinity Washington University in 2013 and have spent the past 12 years supporting others in their mental health journeys. I am a licensed counselor in Maryland (virtual only) and Florida (virtual and in person), with certifications in the treatment of trauma, ADHD, informed sex therapy, and problematic sexual behaviors.

I work with clients across the lifespan, beginning as young as age four, and have extensive experience providing therapy to individuals, groups, and families. My clinical specialties include trauma, ADHD, anxiety, life transitions, re-entry adjustment, addictions, relationships, sexual health and dysfunctions, and concerns related to sexual abuse or sexually inappropriate behaviors. I provide counseling for individuals, couples, and families, tailoring each session to support meaningful, lasting change.

Sessions are grounded in a person-centered foundation, allowing clients to lead with their own goals and needs. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients increase insight into the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and I also utilize Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to treat trauma, anxiety, and other emotional stressors in a focused and effective way.

For children and adolescents, I incorporate age-appropriate, expressive modalities including play therapy, art, sand tray, and bibliotherapy to encourage healing and communication in developmentally meaningful ways.

Above all, my focus as a mental health therapist is to support and empower clients on their journey of change. I work collaboratively to help them recognize, trust, and be inspired by their own progress and resilience.

What can I expect in my first few sessions with?

Our first session will be a chance to get to know each other and begin exploring what brings you to therapy. I focus heavily on building a strong therapeutic relationship, as I believe it’s one of the most important factors in creating lasting change. Feeling safe, understood, and supported is the foundation for any meaningful work we’ll do together. I try my very best to meet you exactly where you are. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, hopeful, or uncertain. My goal is to create a space that feels grounded, respectful, and tailored to your unique journey, so we can move forward at a pace that feels right for you.

What makes you different from other therapists?

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I take a collaborative and goal-focused approach to therapy. I believe lasting change happens when people feel truly seen, supported, and empowered to take ownership of their growth. My role is to create a space where you can explore your experiences without judgment, clarify what matters most to you, and begin taking meaningful steps toward the life you want. Whether you're navigating a life transition, dealing with anxiety or stress, or feeling stuck, I’m here to help you build insight, develop practical tools, and move forward with intention and confidence.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

I’ve always been drawn to meaningful work, and becoming a therapist felt like a natural way to make a real difference in people’s lives. I’m inspired every day by the strength people show in facing their challenges, even when they feel uncertain or overwhelmed. There’s something incredibly powerful about witnessing someone gain clarity, reconnect with themselves, and begin to believe in their ability to change. I see therapy as a collaborative process, where I walk alongside you, offering support, insight, and tools as you work toward your goals. It's an honor to be part of that journey.
