Esther Liberman - Therapist in Sunrise & Fort Lauderdale, FL

Introduction

My name is Esther Liberman, and I am a registered mental health counseling intern, looking to support individuals, couples, and families navigate emotional obstacles arising in life and through difficult transitions. My background includes writing, teaching, and yoga study and instruction. As a counselor, I am person-centered and mindfulness- based. I am confident that if we talk through your problem together, staying curious and without judgement, we can understand it better, learn the skills to solve it, and reach a solution.

I borrow tools from evidence-based systems that harness client strengths, like DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), brief solutions-focused interventions, and non-verbal, trauma-informed systems like music therapy, somatic release, mindfulness and grounding. My experience includes both residential and outpatient levels of care, with clients experiencing negative life outcomes due to symptoms of disorders like the neurodevelopmental spectrum (ADHD, ASD), substance abuse, depression and anxiety, personality (borderline, narcissism), and the effects of stressors, like trauma and grief on body, mind, and spirit.

I earned my degree in 2024 but my counseling education will never end. While pursuing my hours towards licensure, I have completed these additional competency training: Nationally Certified Counselor, Certified Autism Specialist, Gottman Level 1.

What can I expect in my first few sessions with?

In our first few sessions together, you can expect me to gather as much information about you, the things that are important to you and about you, and your sense of the problems I can help you resolve. I also want you to give you an opportunity to get to know enough about me and how I work, to ensure I am the best fit counselor for you.

What makes you different from other therapists?

As with a few other important decisions in my life, I took my time before embarking on counseling as a professional path. My previous occupations and life experiences inform my preferred approaches and tools. I borrow from knowledge I've gained as a student, writer, a teacher, yoga practitioner, daughter, sister, mother, friend, and wife, to help clients find their own path forward.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

My greatest inspiration for becoming a mental health counselor was the enormous benefit I have derived as a therapy client over the years. Accessing mental health resources of all types have provided me and many people close to me with life-changing tools and it's an honor to be able to offer support to others now, too.
