Lindsey Kohn - Therapist in Wellington, FL

Introduction

My name is Lindsey, and I am a transplant from New Jersey but have always been a Floridian at heart. I am a Registered Marriage and Family Therapy Intern that specializes working with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, chronic pain, and major life changes. I also work with couples experiencing relationship distress and aim to help them find their way back to each other.

My passion and the reason I became a therapist is to work with adult adoptees, donor-conceived, DNA discoveries, and non-paternal event (NPE) individuals. My goal is to help this population navigate the sometimes complicated, post-adoption challenges such as family relationships, identity, reunion, secondary rejection, grief, anxiety, trauma, and life transitions. As an adoptee myself, I have a unique understanding of the challenges this population faces, and I am here to help navigate all that being adopted brings to our lives.

What can I expect in my first few sessions with?

In our initial sessions, my goal is to create a safe and supportive space where you feel heard, respected, and understood. We'll take time to explore what’s bringing you to therapy, discuss your hopes and goals, and begin to get a sense of how your past and present experiences may be impacting you. I may ask questions to better understand your background, but there’s no rush—you set the pace. These early sessions are also an opportunity for you to get a feel for my style and ask any questions about the therapy process. Together, we'll start laying the foundation for meaningful and lasting change, with an emphasis on trust, collaboration, and compassion.

What makes you different from other therapists?

What makes me different as a therapist is my belief that therapy can be both a place for deep healing and moments of lightness. While we’ll absolutely do meaningful, sometimes challenging work together, I also believe that therapy doesn’t always have to be heavy or serious. I create a space where you can feel truly comfortable—where it’s okay to laugh, smile, reflect, and be fully yourself. Clients often tell me they appreciate how safe and natural our conversations feel, even when we’re exploring difficult topics. My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative, blending emotional depth with a sense of humanity and connection. Together, we’ll work at a pace that feels right for you—balancing insight, growth, and the occasional smile along the way.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

I became a therapist because I know firsthand how powerful it is to feel truly seen and understood—especially as an adoptee. Being adopted is a deeply complex experience, filled with unique layers of identity, loss, love, and belonging. As an adoptee myself, I understand how important it is to have someone who gets it, without needing to explain every detail. My own healing journey was deeply shaped by the support I received from a therapist who created space for me to explore my story with compassion and curiosity. That experience inspired me to become that kind of support for others. I specialize in working with adoptees because I believe in the power of community, connection, and having a safe space to process the parts of adoption that are often left unspoken. It’s an honor to walk alongside others in this work and to support them in finding clarity, strength, and healing.
