Rick Cullen, LCSW - Online Therapist in Florida

Introduction

My name is Rick Cullen, a native Floridian, who provides therapy to individuals ages 17 – 90 who struggle with mental health issues, including anxiety, addiction, mood disorders (e.g. Depression, Bipolar), and thought disorders (e.g. Schizophrenia).

Advocating for people has always been my passion, practicing from the onset of graduation, first as a criminal defense lawyer, and currently as a psychotherapist. I have also worked at several nationally-renowned Dual Diagnosis Treatment Centers, as well as the County Jail, assessing and evaluating those in need of crisis intervention.  My main goal is to meet the client where he/she is at and work from there, moving forward to achieve a greater degree of mindfulness and self-awareness.

What can I expect in my first few sessions with?

You can expect to learn more about yourself in the first session than you thought you knew, and just enough to know you want to continue exploring.

What makes you different from other therapists?

What makes me different from others is that I am me, and the others are them. Beyond that, I use an interactive approach in therapy combining various appropriate therapies and engaging in what I like to call 'the process' by probing through use of the Socratic method, how you look at things in your life, why you act a certain way, and ways in which you might be able to work toward reframing your perspective, as you work toward making positive change and toward self-empowerment.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

I have always used the empathy within to work with people who need it most, whether when I was a practicing criminal defense attorney, or now as a licensed psychotherapist. My truest inspiration for becoming a therapist is my daughter, herself struggling with a serious mental health disorder. She has shown me what it means to be brave in the face of tremendous adversity, and this has inspired me to want to help others dealing with their own mental health issues.
